Denise Porter-Ross is currently the Northeast Neighborhood Specialist/Area Advocate for the City of Fort Wayne, part of the staff of Mayor Graham Richard and was a member of the Board of Works from 2002-2004.  A Political Science and Business Major at Indiana University, 1971-1975, Denise spent over 25 years in retail marketing and management before going to work in the public sector in 2000.  A third generation Fort Wayne native, Denise left the area shortly after college to live in Indianapolis and St Louis, and returned to Fort Wayne when her only child, Gregory, was a toddler. That son is currently a part-time college student and full time management trainee in a major electronics retail firm.

“Fort Wayne IS a great place to raise a family”, Denise proudly says.  “It is large enough that there was always a variety of activities for my son, yet small enough that I could really know my representatives on the school board or in government. We could be participants in our community instead of spectators.”

Denise is extremely involved in the community.  A member of the 2004 class of Leadership Fort Wayne, she also teaches marketing and advertising workshops for Northeast Indiana Small Business Development Center and mentors for Women’s Enterprise, a program of the Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau.  She is also on the Board of Directors for Three Rivers Festival, the community impact team for United Way of Allen County, Urban League, Community Coalition for Healthy Choices, Coalition for Living Well after 50, and International Festival committees, and coordinates faith based and community based organizations programming for the City.

She also active in her church, Union Baptist Church, with emphasis on new member and community outreach ministries.  In her spare time, Denise enjoys genealogical research and often drives her parents, Hilery and Jackie Ferguson, to family reunions/gatherings throughout the nation.
