"Let's do better

for our community

by working together"

Dear Community Friends,

First of all, I want to thank you for all of the support that you have given me over the years.  Because of the blessing of your friendships, I have always worked hard to understand your concerns and to speak boldly on your behalf both within the administration and in the business world.  A stronger, safer community benefits us all regardless of ethnic background, political affiliation or zip code.

I am running for the City Council of Fort Wayne (at large)  because I feel that there is more that we can do together to make our community stronger and safer for all of our residents.  While urban residents have concerns that differ in scope to suburban residents, we both live in neighborhoods that struggle with unwanted crime, crumbling infrastructure and aging volunteers dependant on dwindling resources for assistance.

Spots on council get candidates

Democrats did get a few more candidates for the Fort Wayne City Council last week.

Denise Porter-Ross filed to run for an at-large seat on the council. The 53-year-old serves as one of the neighborhood advocates for Mayor Graham Richard and previously worked as his spokesman.

She said she plans to get back into the private sector after Richard leaves office, but she still wants to be involved with the community. She said she hopes to run a campaign of building safer, stronger neighborhoods, economic development and transportation improvements.

Porter-Ross said she supports the concept of Richard’s Harrison Square proposal but has some concerns.

“I would love to see something beyond baseball discussed for the stadium,” Porter-Ross said.

The $125 million public-private development calls for a new hotel, new shopping, new condominiums and a city-owned baseball stadium downtown. She would like to see the stadium be available for other activities, such as football games.

Porter-Ross said she didn’t feel that her job would conflict with her campaign, pointing out that Deputy Police Chief Marty Bender is running as a Republican for an at-large seat.
